Earlier today, it was confirmed that former defensive player of the year, Stephon Gilmore, signed with the Indianapolis Colts on a 2 year, $23 million dollar deal with $14 million guaranteed.
The former Carolina Panther has been a very valuable cornerback to have over the last 4 seasons. The 2019 DPOY has made 2 all pro teams, both with the New England Patriots.
Gilmore has spent time with the Bills, where he made 1 Pro bowl appearance in 5 years. However, he has made the last 4 Pro Bowls, 3 of which with New England and 1 with the Panthers last season. Gilmore has missed significant time due to injury in his career. Gilmore has only played 82.5% of possible games he could have played in his career, only 57.6% over his last 2 seasons.
This isn’t the first move Indianapolis has made this offseason. The Colts traded Carson Wentz to Washington earlier in the offseason and replaced him with Matt Ryan not long after. With the NFL draft just ahead of us, Indianapolis has their starting QB down. But most importantly, their starting cornerback who has been amazing when healthy over the last 4 seasons!
