This afternoon, the Ravens decided to make a big free agency splash. They signed safety Marcus Williams to a 5 year, 70 million dollar deal to improve the secondary.
Williams, 25, is coming off a season where he had 2 interceptions on the Saints, who ranked top 15 in pass defense in 2021. He was a 2nd round pick for New Orleans in the 2017 NFL draft and has worked his way up to being one of the more skilled safeties in the NFL ever since.
The Ravens secondary is coming off a terrible season, where they ranked last in pass defense! With Williams consistently good play, Baltimore can regain the secondary strength that they’ve had for nearly their entire 25 year existence.
The thing is, someone will have to go. Chuck Clark or DeShon Elliott. Clark, 26, has spent his entire 5 year career in Baltimore, playing both FS and SS. He is coming off a season where he had 2 interceptions. Elliott, 24, is coming off a season where he only played 6 games with 1 total interception until he was injured for the season. He usually plays FS. So does Marcus Williams. However, it will be a tough call to see who Baltimore takes out of their starting lineup and what team they might be on next season!
With Williams joining All Pro players like Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters, the Ravens secondary may get back to what it used to be!
