Breaking News: Jerami Grant was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers!

With the NBA Draft approaching us, the Pistons made a move to send Jerami Grant to Portland, in exchange for a 2025 1st round pick. And the Blazers have now started their retooling process.

Grant, 28, is coming off of a season where he averaged 19 points per game with 4 rebounds and 1 steal, while shooting 36% from 3pt range. His points per game did decrease by about 2 points this season, if you take into an account the lower amount of field goal attempts he did attempt. The Blazers haven’t had an all star caliber front court player since LaMarcus Aldridge in 2015 and will now erase that weakness with Grant. Grant’s contract is worth about $21 million dollars, which will give them less money to spend in free agency.

For Detroit, they now gain that $21 million dollars in cap space, on top of their $40+ million they already had in cap space. However, this could shake things up for NBA Draft selections. Maybe the Detroit Pistons will take a forward like Keegan Murray or Bennedict Mathurin with the #5 pick, now that Grant is gone. And maybe the Trail Blazers will take a risk with Dyson Daniels at #7 or trade down, now that they have Grant.

Detroit is continuing their rebuild process and Portland is continuing their retooling process, as the NBA Draft is under 24 hours away!
