Breaking News: Kevin Durant requests a trade, Nikola Jokic, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal sign monster deals, Jalen Brunson officially becomes a Knick!

Today was the start of NBA free agency, one of the craziest times of the year for the NBA. However, free agency doesn’t just show signings. It’s the time where trades happen, where we find how championship, and non championship teams are formed. Well, in just the 1st day of free agency, a lot has happened. After multiple rumors about Kyrie Irving leaving the Nets and how Kevin Durant could also be on the move, Kevin Durant has requested for a trade even after Irving accepted his player option worth about $36 million. This also means Kyrie Irving is most likely on the move.

From a free agency perspective, a lot has happened. Anthony Gill has signed back with the Wizards on a 2 year deal and the Wizards are also Delon Wright. Jokes aside, a lot has actually happened during this free agency portion already, especially from a contract extension standpoint. 3x NBA All Star Bradley Beal, after declining his $36.4 million player option yesterday, has signed a 5 year, $251 million dollar contract. That is the 2nd largest contract in the history of the NBA. However, in front of him is 2x reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic who reached an agreement with the Denver Nuggets on a 5 year, $264 million dollar extension. Also making a lot of money is Devin Booker, who signed a 4 year, $214 million dollar extension with the Phoenix Suns. While that only ranks as the 7th largest contract in NBA history, it ranks #1 when it comes to dollars per year.

One of the bigger free agent signings has been Jalen Brunson, who finally reached an agreement to sign with the New York Knicks on a 4 year, $104 million dollar contract. Brunson had also met with the Dallas Mavericks to resign with the franchise but ended up choosing the Big Apple instead. Anfernee Simons, after averaging a career high 17 points per game signed a 4 year, $100 million dollar contract to stay in Portland and be the #2 guard next to Dame with rookie #7 overall pick Shaedon Sharpe off of the bench. Other valuable signings have been Malik Monk to the Kings, Joe Ingles to the Bucks and the Lakers signing quality role players like Troy Brown Jr., Lonnie Walker IV and Juan Toscano-Anderson after losing Monk.

With big names still on the board and a Kyrie and Kevin Durant trade ready to happen in the coming days, this offseason will only get more intense!
