Earlier today, another quarterback was traded. Matt Ryan was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2022 3rd round pick. However, for the upcoming NFL season, the Falcons will still have Ryan’s $40.525 million dollars in their cap space but will go away in the 2023 season.
Ryan, 36, has spent his entire 14 year career in Atlanta. He made 4 Pro Bowl’s, 1 All Pro team and was an MVP in 2016. He also made it to the Super Bowl in 2016, losing to the Patriots. Ryan is coming off a season where he 3,968 passing yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also had a 67% completion percentage. Indianapolis has found their new QB for the upcoming season, their 5th new QB to start the year in the last 5 seasons.
The Falcons are getting a 3rd round pick in this deal that they probably won’t use at the QB position. As for them at QB, they signed the former 2nd overall pick Marcus Mariota, who was the backup QB in Las Vegas last season and was used more as a runner. However, with Ridley out for the season, he will have limited weapons to throw to.
